One more Japanese fish company sentenced because of wrong eel label

The manager of an export fish company Uohide in Tokushima with other 7 people were sentenced on last Saturday because they sold eel said to be raised in Japan but raised in China

8 involved people were sentenced because of that.

From initial investigating, total volume of wrong labeled fish was 256 tons. Therein, about 49 tons was sold from Mar to Jun. Japanese eel’s was 2 – 3 times higher than Chinese eel.

Uohide Company admitted to use false label. The reason was that they could not sell Chinese eel since poison dumbling imported from China at the end of Jan this year.
This was clarified since the public reglected to Japanese Ministry of Agriculture through hot line that eel’s price was unsually cheap.
