About prices, before year 2000, though yeild of shrimps in the world increased quickly, the price was high and stable because catching yeild decreased. The yeild of shrimps on the world in earlier years of 80th decade (about 100,000 tons, mainly in catching) has increased up to 1.5 million tons, mainly in farming.

Form year 2000 to present, the yeild has increased up to 2.5 million tons. After year 2000, prices of shrimps began to decrease. Up to now, it’s probably hard to restore the old prices. Prices of shrimps fell from 20 USD/kg ( 26 – 30 shrimps) to under 10 USD/kg.

Vietnamese shrimps have appeared in 146 countries on the world. Among them, Japan, America and EU countries are three largest market. Annual increasing speed is about 3.3%, America is the largest consuming market (about 35%), the second is Japan (32%), and EU countries (19%). This ratio has changed in recent years, while American and EU market grow stably 4% - 5% per year (1990 – 2007), Japanese market began to decrease (about 0.2% - 0,9% per year) from 19% to 32%. Import of America is growing from 35% to 43% while EU countries’ is from 32% to 38%.

According to evaluation of experts, American market as well as Janpanese market grew to the utmost and tend to fall down. Although EU countries are still at the second level in import, their growth is the highest.
Therefore, Vietnam needs to determine that EU is the main market, then they will become a large market in future with 10 new members in order to reaserch more about this market.

It can be said that, every country of EU also has differences in consumtion which depend on if they are in the North or South of Europe. Their similar is the need in import Vannamei increase and make up more than 50% of shrimps import quantity.

The considerable point is that Vietnam covers only 1% of the largest quantity of shrimp consumed by Spain in the world while Germany consumes lowest quantity of shrimp mostly exported from Vietnam.
