Mekong Delta: 40% of farmers who raise Pangasius have been lost
Update 12/23/2008

17 December, Mekong Delta Fisheries Association showed that the amount of households which specialize in raising Pangasius in Southwest Vietnam has decreased over 30%, fishing areas has reduced 50%.

There are about 40% of households who have been lost and have been in debt from bank. Besides the objective reason of the economic recession which has leaded to the reduction of fish consuming in foreign markets, another reason is that farmers have not been concerned appropriately yet. Especially, the returning VAT to farmers now has many obstacles while most of farmers have met with many difficulties in capital and debts from banks.
